The band started in June 2007. Now, after hours of hard practices, some hiccups, the occasional debate over what leads and bridges to use; and, with 8 songs in tow, we decided it was time to let the world see who 3rd R.O.A.D. is and take the music scene by storm.

Danny and Ross first met at a drive-in. Danny heard Ross singing the song Driving, liked what he heard and wanted to know more. Shortly after they met they formed a two-man acoustic band where, in the process, they wrote several songs, some of which are now part of 3rd R.O.A.D.’s set.

During the following months, they played casually wherever they could, particularly at coffee shops around Johannesburg. It was at some point during this time that the band “From the Ashes” was formed with the addition of one of Danny’s long-time friends assuming the role of bassist.

A month later Ross ran into an old high school friend who is in the music industry and he offered to get them playing. At the first audition, he was impressed enough to ask if he could join them as their drummer. With this group, the band went on to play several gigs.

At one of these gigs, an opening band’s guitarist, Jakes, caught their attention. Ross approached him and asked him to play a song with the band. This went off well and he accepted the invitation to join the band. At this point, the band’s name changed to 3rd R.O.A.D, a name thought up by the original drummer, a name which still has great meaning to all of the current members.

With this line-up the band went on to play a few more gigs. Soon afterwards however, both the drummer and the bassist realised that their calling lay elsewhere.

As one can imagine, this was a devastating blow but nonetheless, Ross, Danny and Jakes never lost hope or their passion and continued to pursue their dream.

Months later, Jakes ran into the current drummer (Remo) and bassist (Björn) at a party and invited them to join one of 3rd R.O.A.D.’s practices. They liked what they heard and the 3rd R.O.A.D. band members liked what they heard too, were impressed by how easily they worked together with the band and immediately took them on as their new band members.

A brotherhood was quickly formed and even greater music was composed. Two months after forming what is now a complete band, 3rd R.O.A.D. played their first gig on New Year’s Eve 2007/2008.

3rd R.O.A.D. had finally established the name that would take them to new levels.

Now 3rd R.O.A.D. continues on their chosen path with a unique sound, passionate lyrics and entrancing energy, travelling a road few dare to travel. They tell the story of life. They sing of a never-ending journey through life; with ardent lyrics of love found, the haunting sadness of love lost, and all the facets which encompass life, a journey which captivates the mind, body and soul…
