ABOUT SKWATTA KAMP
Skwatta Kamp (pronounced Skwa-tah Camp) the group’s name is derived from the word Squatter Camp which are shantytowns littered around South Africa’s open landscapes. The people who live in these settlements are seen as outcasts and a nuisance.  This was the situation in the music industry that Skwatta Kamp found themselves in a few years back, where their form of music was not seen as an art form but a passing fad not worth mentioning in high regard. The group has seen life take a turn for the better in the last four years since the now legendary "The Rest Shut The …" off the BUTTABING ENTERTAINMENT independent release “SKWATTA KAMPAIN” debut album. As planet hiphop becomes more predictable and most fold into manufactured formula acts, SKWATTA KAMP follows a road less travelled opening the audience up to 3D hip-hopping and emceeing.Skwatta Kamp has never been in anyone’s shadow - it’s just not their style!  That is why over the last few winters they have been able to warm-up Skwatta heads with heat off their albums which has seen them walk away with 2 South African Music Awards for Best Rap in 2003 and 2004;a MetroFM Awards for Best Hiphop award in 2003,Best Kwaito/Hiphop Group at the KIdz Star Awards in 2005 and don’t forget the Source Award International Artist Of The Year Nomination in 2004,Best Hiphop Video 2005 – Channel O Video Music Awards and more recently nominated for Best African Hiphop at the  2005 Kora Awards. Skwatta Kamp remains the most successful hiphop group in South Africa in terms of accolades and album sales. Two of their albums Mkhukhu Funkshen (2004) and Washumkhukhu (2005) have both separately sold in excess of 25 000 units (gold status) and counting certifying them a firm favourite amongst music buyers – no other local group has achieved this.

Skwatta Kamp is Slikour, Shugasmakx, Nish, Flabba, Bozza, Nemza and Infa who bring an eclectic, soulful; well rounded; no holds barred Joburg internationally acclaimed reality hiphop to the masses.
Their repertoire boasts four critically acclaimed releases:
Skwatta Kampain 2001 (BUTTABING ENTERTAINMENT)
Khut En Joyn 2002 (BUTTABING ENTERTAINMENT)
Mkhukhu Funkshen 2003 (Gallo Recording Company)
Washmkhukhu 2004 (Gallo Record Company)
They haved performed on the same stage as Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Jeru, Black Thought, Ludacris, Basement Jaxx, Will Smith on the Black August Hiphop Tour and MTV Concerts in recent times and many others. These days there are so many emcees in the market that some listeners have a hard time distinguishing which emcee is which but not so with Skwatta Kamp. They have come a long way but remain consistent and still as hungry as ever.
